Liquid silicone injections

Liquid silicone injected into the penis: can it be removed?

Liquid silicone is not a legitimate substance for enlargement injections, and the body cannot break it down. If it starts forming lumps, inflaming or distorting, the main fix is surgery to remove the silicone-affected tissue. The doctor examines you, plans it and refers you to the specialist team.

How liquid silicone differs from HA filler

HA filler is a gel the body breaks down on its own, and it can be dissolved at once with an enzyme. Liquid silicone is the opposite. It stays in the body for good, spreads into the tissue as tiny droplets, and can move to the pubic area or scrotum. The body often forms an inflamed lump around it (a siliconoma), which may appear years after the injection.

Common symptoms

  • Multiple scattered lumps or a distorted shape
  • Recurring inflammation, swelling and redness
  • Discoloured, hardened or tight skin
  • Substance migrating to the base or scrotum
  • Pain or tightness during erection

How it is treated

Ultrasound assessmentSilicone has a characteristic appearance on ultrasound, so the doctor can see its extent before planning.
Treating inflammation firstIf there is active inflammation or infection, it is treated with medication and settled before any surgery.
Referral for surgical removal and skin repairThe doctor plans with the specialist team, then refers you for surgery to remove the silicone-affected tissue and repair the skin. Some men need several stages.
Follow-upAppointments until the wound has healed well, then an assessment of whether further correction is needed.
Nothing should be injected over silicone

Injecting filler or anything else over an area containing silicone makes the inflammation worse and the repair harder. Always scan and plan first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can silicone be removed with laser or liposuction?

Not completely. Liquid silicone sits in the tissue as tiny droplets. Suction or laser removes only part of it and risks inflammation, so surgery is the main method.

I don't know whether I was injected with silicone or filler. What should I do?

Have an ultrasound first. It gives an initial distinction between HA filler, silicone and oil. Painless and quick.
